If you like lattes and cappuccinos then you will love the Cortado!
What is a Cortado Coffee? The Cortado is a Spanish coffee drink with equal parts espresso and steamed milk. This drink is incredibly smooth, rich, robust, and silky!
Cortados are always made with the same volume: 1 double shot of espresso and 2 oz of milk. It is also always served in a 4.5 oz glass cup, which makes it easy to pour in the exact quantities of espresso and milk.
You will need the following tools to make the Cortado at home:
- To make the espresso: An espresso machine, manual espresso maker, or Aeropress.
- To steam and froth the milk: A handheld frother, French press, or whisk.
That's it so let's get started!
2 oz espresso (2 shots)
2 oz whole, fresh milk (1/4 cup)
Prepare the Espresso
Prepare the espresso and pour into a 4.5 oz glass.
Steam and Froth the Milk
Use an espresso machine or heat the milk on the stove to 150 F. Be careful not to simmer the milk.
Use a handheld frother, French press, or whisk to froth the milk.
Serve and Enjoy!
Pour 2 oz of the steamed milk into the center of the espresso. Enjoy immediately!
Fresh, whole milk works best. Older milk or other kinds of milk will not froth as well as fresh, whole milk will.
